Andes Gifts Fair Trade Alpaca Products

LifeSource carries a wide variety of hand-made Alpaca gloves, hats, mittens, and accessories from Andes Gifts is a company whose mission it is to help improve the lives of Andean women by providing a living wage for their high quality work.

These beautiful, brightly colored products are made in the rich knitting tradition of the South American highlands and make wonderful, thoughtful, socially conscious gifts – especially considering the dropping temperatures we’ve had of late. 🙂

From the Andes Gifts website:

At Andes Gifts we want to prove that affordable high quality, hand-made products can be sourced ethically and sustainably thereby benefiting the individuals and communities involved. We started with this ideal and have developed our unique production infrastructure accordingly, to accommodate the realities of the area of the world in which we work, the highlands of Bolivia and Peru.

The constant push for increases profits by mainstream, brand name stores and businesses. Though this results in lower prices for consumers here in the United States, often the producers of the products we buy are left to scrape by with an increasingly smaller portion of the proceeds from these sales.

Fair Trade companies such as Andes Gifts aim to counteract the “race to the bottom” that often accompanies this drive for ever larger profits, as well as the sweatshop environments that result from the lack of meaningful regulation or enforcement. By spending your dollars on products provided by Fair Trade companies you ensure that a larger percentage of the profits make it into the hands of the folks that are doing the work to provide these products.

Hi, I’m interested in purchasing an Andes Gifts Fair trade alpaca hat in Beige. I have what I believe is called the “milkshake hat”. It’s my favorite hat and I just shrunk it in the wash 🙁 So sad. Will you be getting a shipment of these in Sept/Oct? Thank you!

Unfortunately, my daughter lost a beautiful alpaca beanie that she purchased from Whole Foods, but she can’t find another one in their stores. Is there any way to track down another one of these hats? It was beautifully made…black, fuzzy alpaca…close fitting, but not the usual large, cable pattern, but rather a close stitch knit
