Learning about math with healthy food

LifeSource recently hosted some kids from Salem Heights Elementary to help them learn about math.

They chose to use healthy food in a real world environment for some of their studies:

  • How many peanuts do you have to grind to get a pint of peanut butter?
  • How many apples are in a pound?
  • How much does each apple cost?
  • How many pounds of apples does it take to feed 10 children their own apple?

Arithmetic is often taught using sugary, brightly, artificially colored candy and cereal but this class decided to use real food and LifeSource was honored to help them out. 🙂

They followed up their LifeSource visit by learning to make smoothies from real fruits and vegetables. Way to go, guys! 🙂
